This guide is for non-overwriting playscenes compatible with Petza. It will not work if you do not have petza installed.
To hex playscenes, you will need the following programs-
LNZ Pro- download here- http://sherlocksoftware.org/page.php?id=14
Tinker- download here- http://sherlocksoftware.org/page.php?id=15
An image editor, preferably Jasc Paint shop pro 9, but you can make do with MS Paint which comes with most computers.

Ok, first off, open LNZ Pro. Go to file> Open, and navigate to C/Program Files/Mindscape/Babyz/Resource/Area. Find the scene you want to hex from, right click on it and select copy, then right click on a blank space and select paste. For this tutorial, I will be hexing a nursery. Rename 'copy of nursery.env' to whatever your new scene will be called, eg 'purple nursery.env'.
Now open the file you just renamed. Click on the cross beside BMP to expand it, and click on Nursery. You will then see the backdrop of the scene. Right click on Nursery and select 'save to file...' and save it somewhere on your computer, eg my pictures. Remember to save it with the .bmp extension, or you might not be able to open it.

We are done with LNZ Pro for the moment, but will be coming back to it later. Find your nursery backdrop, and open it in your image program (psp, photoshop, paint etc). Edit it as much as you like, this is the most creative and fun part of the process. You MUST keep it in 256 colour depth though, or it won't work in the game. If you are using MS Paint, this part may take a while to complete.
If you don't have time to make a decent backdrop, you can use this, which is the image I used. Right click here and save target as (or left click, then right click and save picture as)

Once you have changed the backdrop to your liking, and saved it as a 256 colour bitmap, we go back to LNZ Pro. If you closed it before, open up your nursery file again- the one you renamed earlier. Right click on Nursery again, this time select 'replace from file...'. Navigate to where you saved your edited backdrop, then double click on it to import it.

Now click on RCData. Where it says 'Breed ID (as hex)', change the number to something new.

Now click on the cross next to String list to expand it, and select 63. Where you see Nursery, change the first two to whatever you called your playscene- this must be the same as the filename. Don't touch the third line, that should stay the same.

Now you can start babyz, load your scene and hopefully it should work! If you get a error message, go back and make sure all the filenames are the same, and that you followed all the steps like I did. However, it may look a little funny- parts of the original scene still showing up (windows, cupboards, etc). This is because we need to change the filmstrips, using Tinker. You can find more information on using Tinker in my toy hexing tutorial. :)
Open Tinker. Navigate to the Area folder and find your new Nursery. Double click to open it. You will then be asked to choose which sprite to edit. You don't need to change all of these- the nursery has extra mobile filmstrips which aren't even used in the babyz game. Select Nursery_L_Wind and click edit.

Click on the little cross beside L_Wind_State0 to expand it, and select the frame underneath. Right click on it and select Export, and save it somewhere on your computer.

Then open the filmstrip image in your image editor, and edit it so it matches the backdrop you made earlier. Save it, and import it again. Repeat this process for the rest of the frames, and for the rest of the sprites which need editing.
And then, hopefully lol, your scene should be finished and working! If it didn't work; go back and do everything I did. I hexed the example scene while writing this, and it works in my game, so there is no reason why it shouldn't work in yours. If you need extra help you can e-mail me, or ask for help on one of the forums. :)
